Mal stood almost shoulder to shoulder with the merc he called friend. Jayne was far from a perfect man. But Mal wasn't looking for perfection. Jayne's confusion over being hailed as
hero had made Mal want to comfort him, something that Mal didn't do easy. His tough guy persona would get in the way of real emotion. He looked into the other man's eyes. "If I asked."
He hesitated for a moment then cleared his throat. "If I asked, would you kiss me on the lips."

"You're a guy, Mal."

"Didn't seem to bother you on the planet."

"But you're.you, Mal."

"Yeah and?"

Jayne fidgeted with his hands for a moment then looked up. "I don't even kiss girls on the lips."

"Why not?"

"Easier."

"What's easier?"

"Easier to leave the next morning."

"You going somewhere I don't know about?" Jayne shook his head. "Then, would you?"

"You asking now?"

"Not here, not this place, somewhere private, somewhere discreet."

"My quarters, one hour."

"You're on."

Jayne adjusted his pants as the young, handsome captain slipped past him and headed down the stairs. Sure he'd give Mal a kiss and maybe a little more.
