You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (YGTHYLA)
This is a universe I've come up with that takes place concurrently with the 2nd season (though it may at moments deviate from the 2nd season, hence this is an Alternate Universe, but one that is very similar to the original). This sQ universe is different than those I have written before in that it is much less tolerant, and the need for certain relationships to be kept secret is increased, hence the title (as well as my Beatles obsession ;p).
This is not a first time, but an established relationship universe. As in a television series, all stories/snippets can be read individually, yet they do all lead up to a certain outcome. Like real life, there will be no one genre. There will be angst, comedy, h/c, romance, drama, action...
The snippets & stories will come as I write them, and therefore they may not always be in order, but will always be indicated as part of the universe by YGTHYLA in the subject line and titles. I will always indicate in what place in the order the story is, however, as I said, the stories should be understandable individually.
What you need to know about this universe:
The second season begins with a new ship and a new crew, with many old friends reunited. Some of those friends had been working for many months, constructing the new ship. During that time, Tim O'Neill and Miguel Ortiz accepted their feelings for each other and confronted them, starting a romantic relationship with one another. Now, they must figure out how to maintain that relationship on their new ship.
Their first obstacle: separate rooms & new roommates. Despite the fact that he got to choose his own roommate, regulations requite Miguel to have a roommate that is *not* an officer, so Tim is out of the question, much to their mutual disappointment. He chooses Ensign Frank Simmons, a member of the engineering crew who's got a wicked sense of humour and comes from the US Northwest coast. Tim is paired up with Lt. j.g. Patrick Sayyeas, a Canadian aboriginal from Northern Ontario who's Lt. Brody's right-hand man in ship's security.
Obstacle two: the infamous unwritten rules of the military. The series has proven there are no fraternization rules, however not all rules are written. "Don't ask, don't tell" is still the unwritten rule, and while homosexual relationships are not a cause for dismissal or dishonourable discharge, that doesn't mean they're accepted. While
there are many 'enlightened' people on board, one never knows who's on what side of the fence. Along with this obstacle is the added complication of having a telepathic doctor on board.
So throughout this universe, we look at how Tim & Miguel manage to overcome these and other obstacles, and we also see how maintaining this secret affects their friendships and working relationships with other members of the crew.
